On 22nd December, 1914, the 2nd East Lancashire battalion of 24 Brigade, 8th Division, left their billets in Red Barn and moved into trenches some 3 kilometres east of Neuve-Chapelle where they remained until relieved on 25th December. Albert Hughes died from wounds on 27th December and it is likely that he was one of those wounded during this period in the front line. |
